Castrocaro Terme and Terra del Sole

Overview

Orange Flag of the Italian Touring Club

Travelling from Ravenna in the direction of Florence, Castrocaro Terme and Terra del Sole is encountered a few kilometres after Forlì. Consisting of two nuclei, the village has ancient origins and can boast interesting monuments from different eras, from the Middle Ages to the art-deco period, passing through the Renaissance.

In Castrocaro, an important spa not to be missed is the Medieval fortress, one of the largest in Italy, with the Historical and Archaeological Museum. Also to be seen in the medieval village is the Citadel and theByzantine baptistery. The spa complex in pure art-deco style and unique in Italy, is in the modern part of the village.

Moving on to Terra del Sole, the Praetorian Palace from the Renaissance period is worth a visit, with the Museum of Man and the Environment, the scenic Square of Arms and the Medicean walls.

The area is full of farms, wineries and B&Bs that are part of the Forlì-Cesena Hills Wine and Food Trail, where you can eat traditional cuisine and typical dishes, pairing them withquality wines. For example, try the passatelli and cappelletti as first courses and the sweet peaches from Romagna for dessert. The accompanying wines are the Romagna Sangiovese, the Romagna Albana DOCG, Pagadebit, Trebbiano and Cagnina.
