From the intuition of a man in his workshop, the Ferrara Buskers Festival is back, with its 36th edition, in the historic centre of the UNESCO World Heritage city.
After the historic preview, to be held in Comacchio on 22 August 2023, the festival will explode in the magnificent Este town of Ferrara from 23 to 27 August: from 7 pm to midnight, buskers and various art shows, then workshops, talks, food village and crafts market will give the world's largest event dedicated to street musicians a cosmopolitan atmosphere and wealth of culture.
Stefano Bottoni, the event's artistic director, a music lover and musician in his own right, is first and foremost a craftsman. He got the idea for the festival in his workshop while reading an article, dated 30 July 1987, about two musicians who had been turned away by the Traffic Police. Stefano Bottoni decided to transform his Ferrara into a city capable of welcoming and enhancing street artists.
Thus, the world's largest event dedicated to street artists came to be. Once, even the great Bolognese artist Lucio Dalla performed, camouflaged among the other invited buskers.
“Much more than a music festival. Ferrara Buskers is union. Union of art, music and different cultures. Travelling for the festival is a journey, an experience in which you can discover a new world with every step.”
