Overview
Created from the abandonment of a large clay quarry after the closure of the adjacent kiln, the vast area, thanks to a courageous operation by the municipality of San Giovanni in Persiceto, supported by the local WWF and numerous citizens, in 1992 with the official establishment of theEcological Rebalancing Area.
The filling of the two quarry basins created a single lake, which started the repopulation of the area: over seventy species of birds, a flourishing population of marsh tortoise, several species of amphibians and aquatic and marsh plants. A hygrophilous forest of white willow and white poplar extends on the south side, while about five hectares are left to free development.
A unique environment that recreates, an infinity of habitats offering, even in a small space, the possibility of interesting observations in every season.
