Overview

Journey through Ampezzo's history

In Cortina d'Ampezzo, there are three museums whose rooms gather and keep alive the Ampezzo tradition, history and culture of one of the most beautiful areas in Italy. These are the Musei delle Regole, a true institution for locals and a must-see for tourists visiting this treasure of the Dolomites. Since 1975, the Zardini Palaeontological Museum has been the keeper of a precious heritage spanning millennia of history.

Among its rooms, you can admire some of the most extensive and complete fossil collections in the country. Take a step-by-step walk through the geological and morphological evolution of the Ampezzo area, to which rocks, corals, sponges and animal shells bear silent witness.

Complete your journey of discovery into the history and culture of Cortina by visiting the Mario Rimoldi Museum of Modern Art and the Ethnographic Museum of the Regole d'Ampezzo. In the former, you can contemplate over 300 works of art donated by Rosa Braun, widow of Mario Rimoldi, with artists of the calibre of Morandi, De Chirico and De Pisis. The second will take you back in time with its displays of traditional clothes and local handicrafts.
