Overview
In the 18th-century Church of the Suffragio, there is the Oratory of the Virgin Annunziata, today the town's patron saint, whose construction dates back to 1494, commissioned by the Municipality of Foligno. It was probably realised by the architect Francesco di Bartolomeo da Pietrasanta. In 1489, a miracle had occurred in this same area, prompting the municipality to erect the shrine to implore Marian protection over the town. The structure, with its elegant Renaissance style, is characterised by precious marble pillars and cornices. Inside the sacellum is the altar fresco of the Church of St John the Baptist, a work by Pietro Vannucci known as Perugino, painted between 1497 and 1507 and depicting the Baptism of Jesus. The oratory was restored in the 19th century.
