Senales

Overview

The land of Ötzi in the Trentino mountains

Located in the autonomous province of Bolzano in Trentino-Alto Adige, the small municipality of Senales dominates the valley of the same name, rich in history, culture and attractions. These include Juval Castle and its museum, perched on a hill at the valley’s entrance. The ancient medieval building was erected in 1250 and chosen as a summer residence by famous South Tyrolean mountaineer Reinhold Messner. The museum is dedicated to the myth of the mountain and exhibits, including a large collection of Tibetan relics and masks.

Another unmissable attraction in the area is the sensational archaeological site where Ötzi, the glacier mummy, was found. The ArcheoParc, the Valley's open-air archaeological museum, is educational and interactive, an ideal place to spend an afternoon with children immersed in history.

Finally, if you get the chance, take a guided tour of the Charterhouse of the Angels, a monastic centre active from 1326 to 1782: stroll through the cloisters and rooms imagining the angelic chants of the monks in prayer. The visit is bilingual, available in Italian and German.
