Villagrande Strisaili

Overview

The municipality with the highest life expectancy in the world

In this small municipality in the province of Nuoro, there is estimated to be the highest concentration of centenarians in the world. It is no coincidence that Villagrande Strisaili is considered the “municipality of longevity”. Here, the rhythm of life is in balance with nature.

The landscape surrounding the village is rugged and wild, with rocky cliffs rising to dizzying heights, springs from which cool waters flow into streams, and a countryside dotted with centuries-old oaks and holm oaks. The Flumendosa river flows through the Bau Vigo canyon into the magnificent Sothai waterfall.

The seven Giant’s Tombs in the Santa Barbara park, the s’Arcu ‘e is Forros complex, the Troculu complex and the Sa Carcaredda archaeological area are among the most fascinating testimonies of Nuragic civilisation to discover the prehistoric past of this province once known as Ogliastra.

When it comes to local food, we recommend trying the prosciutto, the fried doughnuts is gathulis, the famous ravioli is culurgiones, and sa paniscedda, a dessert made with honey, almonds and grapes.
