Mining Trail of Santa Barbara

Overview

A surprising Sardinia

To discover the wilder and more unusual side of Sardinia, far from crowded beaches and nightlife, explore the Mining Trail of Santa Barbara. Travel on foot, by bicycle or on horseback, to discover this UNESCO heritage itinerary that retraces the ancient routes used by miners since the 19th century to transport raw materials through the Sulcis-Iglesiente-Guspinese area.

Take your time to explore the almost 400 kilometres along ancient mule tracks, dirt or paved roads, past villages, archaeological sites and breathtaking views. Choose your stops among the 24 traditional ones or pick your own, and take regular breaks to enjoy the surrounding beauty.

Along the way, you will discover some of the most picturesque places in Sardinia. Like the island of Sant'Antioco, the abandoned mine of Porto Flavia and the white sand of the Piscinas dunes.
