With the 2023 edition of the Carnival, Putignano offers itself as the Italian capital of entertainment from February 4th to the 25th, thanks to an entertainment program that starts with the parades of majestic Paper Giants, papier-mâché floats, and embraces events, guests, music and art of national appeal.
The Carnival of Putignano is the longest event in Europe because it starts on December 26th and ends on Shrove Tuesday, February 21st. It is among the oldest and longest-lived in the world.
The specificity of the Event is rooted in the origins of the Carnival which, in addition to the parade of majestic themed papier-mâché floats, is expressed through a series of rites, traditions and symbols of the territory's identity. In this sense, the Carnival of Putignano has become, over the years, a known brand and appreciated throughout Italy and abroad, simultaneously opening up to change and collaborations with other Italian and foreign carnivals.
The Godmother of the Carnival of Putignano 2023 will be the beloved TV presenter Mara Venier on the occasion of "Fat Tuesday", the fourth masked circuit of Shrove Tuesday, on February 21st from 18:30.
For its 629th edition, the theme will be "An entirely different fairy tale".
The President of the Putignano Carnival Foundation Giuseppe Vinella and the Organizing Director Gianluca Ignazzi announce among the many attractions: A FAIRY TALE VILLAGE in Piazza Moro which will host a MARZIPAN HOUSE, the TREE OF FAIRY TALES, and the CIRCUS OF FAIRY TALES. Service area with indoor food & beverage options, and “GONFIABILAND” (Inflatable Land) to entertain children of all ages from morning to evening. Among the installations, will be an extraordinary CURTAIN OF LIGHTS created by Faniuolo Illuminazioni, 20 meters high and 15 meters wide, with a cascading string of lights. It will open as each themed float passes, recreating a magical theaterical effect. It will be the largest light curtain ever made in the world.
