Guarene

Overview

Guarene, a small municipality in the province of Cuneo set on a gentle hill, is dominated by the Provana Castle, one of the grandest 18th-century castles in Piedmont, with a beautiful Italian-style park. In addition to the castle, you can admire the Church of Santissima Annunziata, famous for the paintings it houses; the Church of the Annunciation of the Virgin Mary, and the Church of San Michele, the oldest in the town. Piazza Roma is overlooked by the 18th-century Palazzo Re Rebaudengo, which houses the Fondazione Sandretto Re Rebaudengo for contemporary art Guarene is also renowned for the panoramic belvedere of Poggiolo, overlooking the town's fortress, from which there is a magnificent view. The municipality is also famous for a special event, Canté J'euv, through which, with a night dedicated to folklore, an ancient custom of the area, the so-called 'questua delle uova' (egg collection), is commemorated.
