Overview
The colourful houses overlooking Lake Como, the small boats moored, the mountain that seems to protect the village, this is the spectacle that greets us when we arrive in Menaggio, a village of ancient origins and one of the most beautiful places on the lake. The village was once a fortified centre and only the ruins of the medieval castle remain, which still tell of the atmosphere of past centuries. The ancient heart of the village is perched in its highest part, which tells the medieval soul with its steep, cobbled streets and old houses close to each other, while in the part closer to the lake one breathes 19th century atmospheres, with the elegant lakefront, hotels and lidos. Not to be missed are the Parish Church of St. Stephen, the Fountain of the Saviour and, in the upper part, the Church of St. Stephen surrounded by ancient walls.
