Nasino

Overview

Lying in fertile plains between the mouth of the Nimbalto river and the Via Aurelia, Nasino is a peaceful village in the upper Pennavaira Valley. Characterised by an alpine landscape, framed by Dolomite rocks and mountain pastures, this is a destination for mushroom collectors and a starting point for excursions to Mount Galero (1708 m). Already inhabited in prehistoric times, as evidenced by the numerous finds discovered in Arma di Nasino and now on display at the Museum of Albenga, the settlement was known in Roman times as Naticium. During the Middle Ages, the estate passed to the marquises of Del Carretto di Balestrino, who added a castle, of which the ruins still remain. In modern times, the estate came under the sovereignty of the Kingdom of Sardinia.

Sights worth visiting include the Church of Our Lady of Curagna and the 17th-century parish church dedicated to St John the Baptist.
