Overview
Oneglia is one of the eleven ancient towns that encircle Imperia, a charming Ligurian city between sea and mountains. One of its attractions is theold harbour, now designed to accommodate yachts of various sizes and fishing boats, with an area still dedicated to the old industrial cranes once used to load and unload goods from the ships that moved raw materials from the city.
Today, it is one of the busiest places in the heart of Oneglia: it will captivate you with its two piers and the promenade along Calata Cuneo quay, with the portico beneath which you'll find bars, ice-cream parlours, cafés and typical restaurants. Here, in addition to listening to live music and watching the New Year's Eve celebrations and those for the town's patron, St John the Baptist, every 24 June, you also can enjoy freshly caught fish and traditional dishes such as farinata and pissalandrea, a pizza that Admiral Andrea Doria apparently liked very much, topped with tomatoes, capers, olives, garlic, anchovy paste, oregano and Ligurian olive oil.
Nearby you can appreciate the typical Ligurian fishermen's houses, the covered market dedicated to Admiral Doria and the beautiful Piazza San Giovanni, where the collegiate church of San Giovanni Battista is located.
