Carlo Felice Theatre

Overview

It is the city's opera house, the preferred venue for opera, ballet and classical concerts since 1827. The theatre was damaged during the Second World War and was only rebuilt in 1987. The new building was designed by Ignazio Gardella, Aldo Rossi and Fabio Reinhart. The restoration project has restructured the vestibule of the old theatre, and the western arcade with its embossed ceiling, the work of Carlo Barabino (1826-31). Behind it is the 1990 building, surmounted by a glass cusp, which is illuminated during performances and is now one of the characteristic features of the Genoa skyline. The stage apparatus includes four mobile platforms, activated by sophisticated technology.
