Andora

Overview

Between sea, flora and fauna

Its name, meaning “valley of gold”, reflects its beauty. According to legend, it derives from the nymph Andalora, who allegedly took her own life so as not to end up in the hands of the Saracens. Andora is among the most renowned and visited towns of the Riviera delle Palme, an area that boasts the perfect combination of tranquil seaside villages, a lively nightlife, especially in summer, and beautiful beaches.

You can explore the historic centre, with the Church of Santi Giacomo e Filippo and the Castle of Andora, built in the 12th-13th centuries to defend from enemy assaults. The beaches, among the widest and sandiest in Liguria, are the perfect place to relax by the sea.

For natural beauty, we recommend the Butterfly Park, a garden near the sea where you can immerse yourself in the local vegetation. Birdwatchers can observe numerous species in the wild in the protected area of nearby Val Merula. Or, if you prefer marine fauna, you can take an excursion to the Cetacean Sanctuary.
