Overview
An oasis of peace on the Po Delta
Located to the south of Ravenna, the Pineta di Classe is part of the Po Delta Park. With its 900 hectares, it provides one of the great green lungs of the Adriatic Riviera. La Pineta is a peaceful oasis, the ideal destination for walkers and nature lovers: it is home to centuries-old plants such as holm oaks, downy oaks and white hornbeams. These trees also include "Dante's Oak", of which all that remains today is a trunk. This is where, according to the vulgate, the great poet used to stop to seek tranquillity and inspiration.
Inside the wider Po Delta Park, on the other hand, the six areas - called stations - stretching between the provinces of Ferrara and Ravenna preserve unique natural environments. Like the Valleys and Salina di Comacchio, the Pineta di San Vitale and Pialasse di Ravenna, the complex of Punte Alberete and Valle Mandriole, freshwater marshes originating from past flooding of the Lamone river.
