Overview
Known to Vasco Rossi fans for being the birthplace of the famous Italian singer, the village of Zocca actually offers many attractions and conveys to those who visit it all the warmth and hospitality of the province of Modena.
Its foundation dates back to the 15th century and its name, originally Zoca, means a 'cut log'. It was famous for being the site of a large market, founded by the Marquis Borso d'Este himself. Over time, its historic centre developed to include the many buildings of great cultural value that you can still admire today.
The heart of the village is the parish church of San Contardo, but all the districts of Zocca conceal little gems to be discovered, such as the Parish Church of Santi Vitale e Biagio in Missano, the Castle of Montetortore in the village of the same name and the Rangoni Machiavelli Tower in Rosola. In Ciano, head to the Church of San Lorenzo to admire the surrounding gullies.
