Sorbara

Overview

A curious rural hamlet in the lovely Emilian countryside

A small town in the province of Modena, located between the Panaro and Secchia rivers, Sorbara fascinates with its rural landscape dotted with centuries-old vineyards, real natural sculptures that already communicate the strong oenological tradition of this territory.

At Sorbara, expanses of vineyards blend with poplar forests and elegant villas lining the river, often shrouded in mist, forming a landscape as melancholic as it is fascinating. A picture postcard view that immortalises Emilian rural life and describes the historical agricultural vocation of this land, transformed from mud to fertile plains thanks to the reclaiming of the land by the Benedictine monks of Nonantola. Cradle of the finest Lambrusco wines, the Sorbara area is home to numerous villas built from the 16th century onwards. Visit the Pieve Matildica of 816 AD, which was rebuilt on the occasion of the victory of Matilda of Tuscany over the army of Henry IV. An architectural symbol of this town, famous for its bell tower overlooking the surrounding countryside and home to numerous curiosities. Legend has it that the bricks are made from Lambrusco grapes and that the characteristic sound of the bells is used, somewhat superstitiously, to banish rain and hail from the countryside.

An ancient rural village in the centre of Food Valley, an ideal destination for gourmets and for those who want to take a relaxing break in the heart of the Emilian countryside.
