Savigno

Overview

Savigno is a village with a medieval atmosphere located on the road that goes up the Samoggia Valley, about thirty kilometres from Bologna, or even a bit further if you venture along the roads through the hills. We are on the border between Bologna and Modena, in the heart of a genuine food and wine paradise, traversed by one of the most enticing food trails. This is the home of tortellini, tagliatelle and lasagne; the production area of prosciutto, zampone, cotechino and mortadella, as well as parmigiano reggiano and balsamic vinegar, Lambrusco and Pignoletto. Last but not least, there are white truffles, for which this valley is the best location in Emilia, and Savigno their small capital. The local specialities include 'nido di rondine al tartufo' (swallow's nest with truffles), a weave of tagliatelle noodles combined with truffle butter laid on a bed of parmesan cheese and garnished with flakes of the prized white truffle. The most eagerly awaited event for fans of the precious 'trifola' is in November, when the Sagra del tartufo bianco pregiato is held over three consecutive Sundays and then extended through the season in the menus of the valley's restaurants.
