Casa della Musica

The inauguration of the new building on 29 May 2017 was also attended by the Italian President, Sergio Mattarella. The space, designed by the architects firm Mario Cucinella's, is further confirmation of the importance of music to the community of Pieve di Cento. Its unusual architectural layout has been designed to look like a drum kit. Oak was chosen for the exterior and interior walls, partly for its excellent acoustic properties but also as a reference to the local lute-making tradition. Inside this modern building is a suite of single-instrument workshops, all communicating with a central common area also used for musical talks and events. The 'House of Music' is currently used by the students of the schools in Pieve di Cento and by the local music society, Circolo Pievese di Musica Moderna.
