Overview
Pozzuoli has an ancient heart, a historical soul that is reflected in the sea and with the sea intertwines its deepest essence: this ancient heart is Borgo Vicereale, which develops around the port and stretches out from the promontory towards the coast, as if to touch the waves. Behind it is the well-known Rione Terra, which still bears evidence of the city's historical evolution. Borgo Vicereale in Roman times was a port of great importance and the centre of trade that connected this land with the most distant places, through long journeys that even crossed oceans. The village, which has recently undergone redevelopment, has its centrepiece in the Piazza della Repubblica, elegant with its beautiful historical buildings. Opposite, and everywhere, the sea, which always tells ancient and fascinating stories.
