Overview
In March 2008, the MARCA, a rich multifunctional museum centre that aims to house and unite a wide variety of artistic situations ranging from ancient to contemporary art, came into being. The permanent exhibition has been set up in a building, located in the historical centre of Catanzaro, which formerly housed an institute for deaf-mutes and a printing house. Thanks to the restoration work carried out, the building has been specially arranged to better accommodate the museum, which is on three levels, surrounded by a courtyard and a garden and has a large terrace offering a splendid view of the city. The ground floor houses the Pinacoteca e Gipsoteca della Provincia, with around 120 painted and sculpted works, while the first floor houses the permanent Rotella collection, named after the great Catanzaro master Mimmo Rotella, and the rooms dedicated to temporary exhibitions. Finally, in the basement, there is the multi-purpose centre for contemporary culture.
