Challand-Saint-Victor

Overview

At a moderate altitude, in an already mountainous but quiet and family-friendly environment, Challand-Saint-Victor is composed of several small villages; From the largest of these, Villa-Nabian, you can reach the Villa Lake Nature Reserve to experience a lake environment among reeds and woods. Along the road to the Reserve, a signposted diversion leads to the parking area, from which it is a half-hour walk up to the ruins ofVilla Castleand the views that the location reveals. The castle had been repaired by the Challants in the early 14th century to control the route along the Ayas Valley and towards Gressoney.

On the other side of the valley from regional highway 45, thehamlet of Isollaz is known for its waterfall, also reached on foot after parking your car. The path is not all smooth and the rise along the course of the Évançon is no higher than about fifty metres, but the spectacle is striking: even the sound that the water makes is unique.

In Sizan you can visit the Saint-Victor parish church, which despite its more recent appearance retains its 15th-century portal and buttresses. It is no surprise that here too there is a Challant coat of arms, seen in a keystone above a buttress.
