Capistrello

Overview

In the heart of Abruzzo, amidst limestone rocks and verdant woods rich in watercourses, lies the village of Capistrello, not far from the Monte Salviano nature reserve.

The village is subdivided into districts, connected by cobbled streets, and is a place where it is pleasant to walk slowly, amidst the chirping of birds and the rustling of the foliage of the trees surrounding the village.

Those who love architecture will be able to admire splendid buildings dating back to the 7th and 8th centuries, mostly built by Benedictine monks.

In the end, Capistrello is a village that maintains close contact with historical memory: it was the site of torture and massacres by German troops during World War II and was awarded the Gold Medal for Civil Merit in 2004, so as not to forget this horror.
