To mark the FAI Spring Days, the Albergo Diurno is reopened to the public, offering guided tours. The opening of the Day Hotel for the FAI Spring Days forms part of the themed itinerary ‘Belluno Sotterranea’ (Underground Belluno), which focuses on the city’s hidden places.
The tour starts from Piazza Angelina Zampieri, behind Palazzo Bembo, continues across Piazzale Cesare Battisti – where three works by the Belluno sculptor Franco Fiabane can also be seen – and finally leads to the underground rooms of the Day Hotel.
Here, amid signs of neglect and furnishings that have remained in place for decades, the story of the building is told in the context of Belluno’s urban and social history. Visitors will descend into the entrance hall, which opens onto the barber’s room, the women’s toilets and the rooms with bathtubs and showers.
Visitors will also be able to see the remains of the thermal power plant, discovering a normally inaccessible area that reveals a little-known but fundamental aspect of 20th-century daily life.
