The Middle Ages explored through paintings, photographs, artefacts, history and the Palio, under the auspices of the Cultural Olympiad of Milano Cortina 2026.
Visitors will experience the "duality between dream and reality that characterised the Palio of Feltre 2025, offering a double perspective: on the one hand, the Middle Ages imagined by artists, writers and musicians between the 19th and 20th centuries as a source of myths and inspiration; on the other, the Middle Ages of festivals and popular re-enactments, which transform history into a collective ritual and shared identity, making a dreamed Middle Ages tangible through its social dimensions".
Among the highlights of the exhibition are the painting III before the Destruction of Vicenza by Lorenzo Delleani and the stage design sketches by Mario Pompei for the Parisina saga, on loan from the Vittoriale. The exhibition also features figures such as Blessed Bernardino, Panfilo Castaldi and Vittorino da Feltre.
Of particular importance is the restoration, supported by the Palio Città di Feltre Association, of several civic assets that will be displayed in the exhibition. Significant space is dedicated to the Palio of Feltre, narrated through documents, costumes, heraldry and banners, with the banners themselves presented as autonomous works of art.
Historic posters from the Salce Collection illustrate how historical re-enactments were shaped by ideology or tourism.
