3Tre Ski World Cup Madonna di Campiglio

Madonna di Campiglio once again renews its nighttime appointment with Italy’s oldest alpine skiing classic and the FIS World Cup, which will be celebrated to the fullest on Thursday, 22 December 2022 with the pre-Christmas 3Tre race.

The Alpine Skiing World Cup night slalom will take place, as always, on the Canalone Miramonti ski course. The two races will take place at 5.45pm and 8.45pm, for edition 69 of a legendary competition.

Madonna di Campiglio is a truly unique location.

Its history and worldly spirit, dating back to the time of the Habsburgs, has been accompanied since the late-20th century by a sporting prestige with few equals throughout Italy and the world.

This cool resort, a unique blend of the energy of the snowy slopes and the glamour of the town centre, is a must for anyone who loves the mountains and skiing.

The Pearl of the Dolomites, as Madonna di Campiglio is nicknamed, is already preparing for the highlight of its season. The passion for snow is palpable in the Brenta Dolomites, ready to welcome thousands of tourists from around the world for a winter season that aims to leave the pandemic behind, once and for all.

Amid the allure of an electrifying weekend (starting on 21 December with the traditional bib draw in the central Piazza Sissi), celebrities, glamorous events and irresistible night-time parties, the 3Tre will once again transform Madonna di Campiglio into an otherworldly destination just in time for Christmas.

Over fifteen thousand spectators are expected to line the sides of one of the temples of world slalom, which has consecrated the greatest skiing champions year after year.

This is also why the 3Tre is a race like no other. At Madonna di Campiglio, selection is natural: the good athletes are divided from the great athletes, and the great athletes are divided from the generational prodigies. You need only look at the roll of honour to see proof of this: Colò, Thoeni, Gros, Stenmark, Zurbriggen, Girardelli, Tomba, Matt, Miller, Kostelic, Rocca, Neureuther, Hirscher, Yule, Kristoffersen and defending champion Foss-Solevaag.

In recent seasons, balance has reigned in the men’s slalom, still searching for a clear leader after Marcel Hirscher’s retirement from competitive skiing. Norwegian Henrik Kristoffersen, twice winner in Campiglio, seemed the most likely to pick up the baton, but hot on his heels are his younger compatriots Lucas Braathen and Atle Lie McGrath, the more experienced Sebastian-Foss Solevaag, Frenchman Clement Noel and Austrians Manuel Feller, Marco Schwarz and Johannes Strolz.

In Campiglio, an Italian has yet to find a champion for the past 17 years – the last was Giorgio Rocca in 2005. Trying to end this drought will be the young Alex Vinatzer and veteran Giuliano Razzoli: also up for grabs is the coveted Maglia Fulmine jersey, a re-emerging 3Tre icon that only the cream of the crop of Canalone Miramonti can boast of.

Before and after the race, emotions run high: at Madonna di Campiglio, skiing at the highest level can be experienced all winter long, thanks to over 150 kilometres of slopes in the largest Ski Area in Trentino, with snow guaranteed by the Lake Montagnoli basin.

A night like this can only be experienced once a year, and anyone who has can’t wait to come back.
