Ortisei

Overview

A fairytale village in the Dolomites

The village of Ortisei in Val Gardena, South Tyrol, is ideal for a holiday in the Dolomites. For over two centuries, it has been known for its craft tradition of producing beautiful carved wooden sculptures. Since the 1970s, it has been a tourist resort for winter sports, climbing, trekking, mountain biking and paragliding.

Enjoy a stroll through the city centre past historic hotels, small shops, bars serving delicious hot chocolate and restaurants where you can sample local specialities. Visit San Giacomo, the oldest church in Val Gardena, dating back to the 12th century and is home to a carved wooden altar. To discover the history and culture of Val Gardena, don’t miss out on a trip to the Museum de Gherdëina. In summer, wander through the Uhrerhof rose garden with over 6000 specimens.

Thanks to the ski lifts, you can easily reach Rasciesa, Seceda and Alpe di Siusi, part of Dolomiti Superski, from Ortisei. The village is an excellent starting point for the Sellaronda tour, a challenging but unforgettable ski itinerary. Another spectacular experience is the via ferrata Sas Rigais.
