Notte de Chelu in Berchidda – Nativity Scenes, Tradition and Christmas Magic

Overview

On Saturday 6 and Sunday 7 December 2025, Berchidda, known as the "village of nativity scenes", lights up once again for the twelfth edition of Notte de Chelu. This event, one of the most distinctive of the Christmas season in Sardinia, is a true journey through tradition, flavours, and magical atmospheres. The celebration takes its name from a famous song by Pietro Casu and lives in the hearts of the local community.

The beating heart of the event is the town’s eight districts, where the creativity and skill of the residents bring to life life-size nativity scenes. The 2025 edition is centred on the theme of the Star of Bethlehem, a symbol of hope and light. As visitors stroll through streets and squares, they will be entertained by artists and musicians who contribute to the enchanting atmosphere. A not-to-miss novelty is the “Nativity Scene of Norcia”, hosted in the Mesu Idda district in the town centre. To make visiting all the nativity scenes easier, a free shuttle service is available.

Notte de Chelu is not only a feast for the eyes but also for the palate. A rich food and wine itinerary accompanies the nativity route, offering local products, traditional sweets, and the excellent Vermentino for which Berchidda is famous. Numerous wineries will open their doors for tastings. Visitors can also enjoy guided tours and tastings at the Wine Museum, as well as explore the museum dedicated to Pietro Casu.

The festive atmosphere begins as early as Friday 5 December, with a special preview: a singing masterclass led by Claudia Aru at the S.Croce Theatre. A unique weekend to experience #SeguendoLaCometa, discovering authentic Sardinian hospitality.
