Mogoro

Overview

Borgo dell'Alta Marmilla, Mogoro stands on land made rich and fertile by the watercourses that flow through it and nourish it, such as the rio Mogoro, rio Flumineddu, and rio Sassu. Surrounded by a land where traces of the past emerge in the remains dating back to the Nuragic age, the centre of Mogoro tells its story with the materials and architecture with which it is built, such as the black basalt of the oldest buildings, the white cornices that decorate the small windows and the wooden doors that give access to the courtyards. Protagonist of village life, however, is the art of weaving and, in particular, the production of Sardinian carpets: here, the ancient method of weaving on a loom is still handed down from generation to generation and the village is home to numerous workshops where the weaving of the wefts occupies the hands and fills the hours of the day. Between July and August, a fair is dedicated to the Sardinian carpet, and each year a large number of people come here to admire the beautiful carpets.
