Rocky coastline overlooking the sea paths that wind between the Mediterranean scrub, cliffs overlooking the beaches with vibrant colors and crystal clear waters: Sardinia with its wild interior and spectacular views has long been known as one of the most fascinating destinations for lovers of climbing. Thanks to its mild climate, the island offers the possibility to climb throughout the year and, as of late spring, a vacation that combines relaxation on the beach with sports. Cala Gonone in the province of Nuoro, Jerzu in the province of Ogliastra, Isili in the province of Cagliari, Supramonte in the central-eastern area, and Iglesiente in the southwest of the island, are just some of the places not to miss if you want to explore Sardinia’s walls of rock. Climbable walls are present, however, all over the island and recently areas such as Sassari and Alghero are becoming popular. These courses tend to be well-equipped and periodically checked. They were initially discovered and evaluated by Sardinian and European outdoorsmen, and are now beloved throughout Europe.
Traveling a route from the north to the south of the island, anyone coming from Olbia can now climb the beautiful cliffs of the Cala Gonone area. Biddiriscottai is a high cliff with a grotto, characterized by sharp red limestone, reached in a fifteen minute walk along a path, combining both beach and rock. Farther south, you will find what many call a “paradise” for climbers.The Baunei area is a natural pearl in the province of Ogliastra, dotted with limestone and characterized by walls ideal for both beginners and for hiking enthusiasts. Selvaggio Blu is a trek in seven stages considered by some to be "the most difficult trek in Italy." Selvaggio Blu presents some difficulties, due to the lack of water in some places. It is long, providing a full itinerary of seven days, but you can also hike just a section of it, with the aid of guides, even with the whole family, to experience the sights of ancient charcoal burners and shepherds, between sea and mountains. Also in Baunei, do not miss the natural obelisk of Aguglia, who presides over the beach of Goloritzè, and, also in province of Ogliastra, the Jerzu area and his views of monoliths that rise solemnly, making the climb difficult but thrilling.
Moving down and further west, we find Domusnovas and Iglesias, where it takes only 30 minutes or less to climb the rocks overlooking the sea, such as the cliffs of Masua, Wild Cadapria, or the Towers of Masua, where you can find climbing for everyone, from beginners to experts. Finally, the territory if Isili, in the province of Cagliari, must not be overlooked. It already features over 300 pitoned climbing routes. Silent and imposing rocks that attract the best climbers in Europe, lured by the difficulty of the cliffs that stand between narrow canyons. Isili is a natural landscape that, as in the whole of Sardinia, testifies to its ancient history, allowing you to visit the countryside full of nuraghi, including the famous Nuraghe Is Paras, among the best preserved in the area.
