Martignano

Overview

To the traveller wishing to explore Martignano and its territory, we recommend starting out from the beautiful 18th-century Palazzo Palmieri, the headquarters of the Cultural Tourist Park of the same name: excursions to the Grecìa area and the rest of the Salento depart from here, but the Palazzo is already a place of discovery and enchantment, with its garden full of oranges, mandarins and medlars, and its semi-hypogean oil mill, cradle of ancient gestures and traditions. After visiting the Chapel of San Giovanni Battista and that of the Madonna delle Grazie, a walk to the lowest part of the town will lead you to the characteristic 'pozzelle', small reservoirs for collecting rainwater, also called 'pozzi di San Pantaleo', in honour of the patron saint.
