Alessano

Overview

Situated at the foot of the Serra dei Cianci, Alessano is a village with a particular identity: the distance from Lecce seems to have attenuated the Baroque influence that dominates in the capital, while here the architecture is more linear, essential, recalling the Renaissance and its aesthetics. Its historic centre is one of the best preserved in the Salento and the beauty of its architecture stands out in Palazzo Legari, where the Gonzagas also lived, in Palazzo Sangiovanni and Palazzo Ducale, but also in its splendid churches, among which the Church of the Santissimo Salvatore, the Church of Sant'Antonio and the Collegiata, majestic and Baroque, which leaves the gaze that rests upon it enchanted.
