Overview
Located along the valley of Dora Baltea, Montalto Dora is located at the gates of Ivrea along the Morenico-Canavesano section of the Via Francigena. We are welcomed by the evocative charm of the Castle that stands out on the waters of Lake Pistono, one of the 5 Lakes of Ivrea.
Many beautiful excursions lead us to discover a region rich in biodiversity. You can't miss a visit to the Terre Ballerine, a layer of peat resting on a layer of water, on which you can bounce as if you were on a trampoline.
The discovery of traces of a pile-dwelling settlement dating back to the Neolithic period on the shores of the lake gave rise to the Archaeological Park in 2017, which houses a full-scale reconstruction of a pile dwelling. The Lake Pistono Archaeological Exhibition Space, located near the Town Hall, houses archaeological finds of considerable scientific importance and illustrates the culture and lifestyle of the first inhabitants of this land enclosed by mountains and water.
