Overview
In the heart of Molise, an ancient tradition still survives, that of bagpipes. The village of Scapoli, known as the 'Capital of the Bagpipe', is one of the few villages in the whole of Italy where not only is the custom of playing this very special instrument still alive, but also where skilled craftsmen continue to make it, handing down from generation to generation the ancient techniques and secrets of this timeless art. A unique museum is dedicated to the reed-pipe, containing a cultural heritage of great value, thanks to the presence of specimens from all over the world and produced in various eras. An international festival with a market exhibition is also dedicated to the reed-pipe. Finally, not to be missed is the Bonfire of St. George on 22 April, an archaic and exciting ritual.
