Overview
Situated near the River Foglia, where the watercourse draws a wide curve before leaving the lands of Montefeltro, Montecalvo is characterised by a building that is a symbol of its past and history. It is an isolated mediaeval tower on the top of a hill: it is the Torre Cotogna (Quince Tower), the only testimony that remains to remind us that the territory of Montecalvo was a border zone between the lands of Montefeltro and the coastal lands of the Malatesta family. A semantic curiosity: its name seems to derive from the fact that the village stands on land subject to landslides due to its clay composition, a characteristic that made it bare of vegetation and, therefore, 'bald'.
