Overview
Situated on a rocky spur in the upper Conca valley, the small village of Monte Cerignone is formed by a small town located at river level and a 'castle' set on a tuffaceous ridge. This is the oldest and most fascinating part of the village, where visitors will get lost admiring the charming cobbled streets that climb up to the ancient fortress, built in the 12th century at the behest of the first counts of Montefeltro and partially rebuilt in the late 15th century by Francesco di Giorgio Martini. The history of the village is told by the Mons Cerignonis historical re-enactment, which, with its procession and palio, takes place in the castle every year in July.
