Overview
From July 18 to August 10, 2025, Macerata will once again become the capital of opera with the 61st edition of the Macerata Opera Festival, one of the most anticipated events of the Italian cultural summer. In the spectacular setting of the Sferisterio, a unique neoclassical masterpiece, opera blends with architecture and the magic of the Marche nights to offer spectators an unforgettable experience.
This year’s edition features a captivating lineup, combining the tradition of melodrama with new artistic experiences, in a perfect balance of scenic power, musical emotion, and visual allure. Among the great titles on the program are two masterpieces by Giuseppe Verdi, Rigoletto and Macbeth, intense and dramatic operas that find in the Sferisterio an ideal frame to amplify the strength of their universal themes. Marking an important first at the Sferisterio will be The Merry Widow by Franz Lehár, a world-famous operetta presented in a version that promises elegance, irony, and engagement. Artistic crossovers will not be missing, such as in the dance show Carmen Flamenco, inspired by Prosper Mérimée’s original tale, which reinterprets the figure of Carmen in a vibrant fusion of storytelling, flamenco, and music. Completing the program is the Opera Gala, a special concert that will take the audience on an emotional journey through the most famous arias from the three operas on the bill, celebrating the beauty of the operatic voice in an intimate and evocative setting.
