Overview
The small village of Mercatino Conca was officially born in 1508 with a decree issued by Guidubaldo I di Montefeltro, authorising the Community of Monte Grimano to hold the weekly Friday markets and the Good Friday, St. Ubaldo and St. Peter cattle fairs in the square of this newly-born village, then called Genga del Mercato. Geography has entered overbearingly into the history of this town: its name, in fact, derives from its proximity to the Conca River and its position on the border with Romagna gave rise to the construction of the imposing six-arch bridge that crosses the river and allows trade with the surrounding lands.
