Acquaviva Picena

Overview

Acquaviva Picena rises inland from San Benedetto del Tronto, on a hill from which the gaze sweeps over the gentle hills of the Marches to the Apennine mountains. The traveller passing through the village will be enchanted by its architecture: first of all the Rocca, a Renaissance masterpiece, and then, in the old centre, the church of San Nicolò, the Casa Rossi Panelli and the Torre Civica. But there is a curiosity to be told linked to this town and it is one of its traditions: it is the manufacture of straw baskets, made with ancient gestures handed down through the generations. The Museum of the 'Pajarola' is dedicated to this fascinating activity, where baskets, kitchen utensils, and dolls made from woven straw, wicker, and natural materials are preserved.
