Overview
The creation of memory is an exhibition created in collaboration with Mart – The Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art of Trento and Rovereto. It is included in the programme of the Milano Cortina 2026 Cultural Olympiad. The project merges two seemingly distant artistic experiences, united by a common vision: that of the Bagatti Valsecchi brothers and Fortunato Depero, both driven by the desire to inhabit art, blending ancient and contemporary contexts.
The exhibition creates a parallel between the 19th and 20th centuries, between dreams and life, transforming the rooms of the Casa Museo Bagatti Valsecchi into theatrical mechanisms in their own right. The permanent house-museum collection is complemented by Depero's late Futurist works, in a visual and conceptual dialogue that accentuates the relationship between art, space, and memory.
Just as the Bagatti Valsecchi brothers originally conceived of their home as a lived-in Renaissance-style residence, so Depero designed the Casa d'Arte Futurista in Rovereto in the 1950s, adapting a 16th-century building to consecrate his personal artistic identity. In both cases, architecture serves as a narrative and symbolic medium.
With works dating from the 1930s to the 1950s, the exhibition features a new layout designed by the A-Fact architecture studio in Milan, which enhances the spatial and temporal dimensions of the works in a domestic setting. Curated by Gaetano Cappa of the Barlumen Institute, the experience is enriched by an immersive soundscape that amplifies the sense of wonder and projects visitors into a dynamic, festive, and visionary universe.
