Overview
Born in 2019 on the initiative of six blind fencers, two in wheelchairs and two able-bodied, the Accademia Scherma Milano is a flexible and multifunctional space that offers the teaching and practice of different sports activities in an open and inclusive way.
The fencing activity is aimed at both able-bodied athletes and athletes with physical, intellectual-relational and blind disabilities. On the platform, foil, sabre and sword starter courses are given, for adults and for competitors, organized to face the competitive season according to the calendar of the Italian Fencing Federation.
With the aim of breaking down any kind of barrier, the Academy has promoted partnerships with different realities such as the Beccaria prison in Milan and extended the courses to people with Alzheimer's and women survivors of breast cancer. On the platform, able-bodied children and wheelchairs also pull blindfolded fencing, while the blind also train on the wheelchair to learn that sport, like life, is made of diversity.
In the space there is a fitness area, used for various types of courses, including Tai Chi, Functional Training, Total Body Workout, Circuit Training, Kettlebell Training, Antalgic Gymnastics and Personal Defense. The Academy is located in via Filippo Sassetti n.15.
