Borgoratto Mormorolo

Overview

At an altitude of 326 metres above sea level in the valley of the Ghiaia di Borgo-ratto stream, which is a branch of the Coppa, a right afuente of the Po. The name Borgoratto is said to derive from the steepness of the town's main street. Worth seeing is the parish church, built in the 12th century but completely restored in the 20th century, which corresponds to the medieval parish church of Mormorola on which the farm of the Lombard monastery of San Colombano in Bobbio developed. The church has a single nave, and in the southern wall of the modern parish church, some small walled fragments belonging to the pre-existing Romanesque church can be seen. Not far from Borgo-ratto, on the heights of Valle Strana, a portion of an area covered in juniper trees called Costa Pelata, it is possible to walk along a nature trail rich in butterflies.
