Lingueglietta

Overview

A short climb made pleasant by the shade of the surrounding woods and olive trees leads to Lingueglietta, a small hillside village in the municipality of Cipressa, a village of stone, green, but still feeling the influence of the sea, not too far away. The small village is a tangle of caruggi, ramps and covered passageways, a tangle where everything leads to what is the heart and symbol of the centre: the fortified church of San Pietro. Dating back to the 13th century, it was transformed over the centuries into a defensive fortress to protect the village from pirate attacks and accommodate the population during raids. It is a special place, this church, to be looked at carefully to grasp, in its lines, its souls coming together, a military bulwark and a place of faith and spirituality.
