The most beautiful fashion locations to see in Rome during Fashion Week

When we think of the Eternal City we immediately associate it with its imposing and wonderful architecture, monuments, delicious food and cinema.

But for Italians, Rome is also the birthplace of some of the world's best-known fashion and jewellery houses such as Fendi, Laura Biagiotti and Bulgari and Valentino, who will be the protagonist in Rome on 8 July with an exclusive show featuring a route linking Trinità dei Monti, the Spanish Steps, an iconic place in the history of fashion, and Piazza Mignanelli, home of the historic Atelier.

Historic boutiques, fashion history and haute couture shows. During AltaRoma, a festival generally held twice a year in January and July, the city' s streets are transformed into catwalks, and the most exclusive locations host the most glamorous parties and events, attracting celebrities and personalities from the international jet set.

And whether you are in the capital as tourists, insiders or passionate Romans, taking advantage of Rome Fashion Week to experience the city in a different light is a more unique than rare opportunity.

Here, then, is a small guide to the buildings, monuments and locations that you should definitely include in your Roman fashion itinerary. You won't be short of surprises.

Rome, fashion, historical buildings and fairytale locations

First and foremost, Palazzo Brancaccio, located in the heart of the city, is the building that hosts the most coveted events during Rome's fashion week.

Also famous for having been chosen as the set location for films such as Roman Holiday and the Oscar-winning The Great Beauty, it lends itself as the setting of choice for the Capitoline haute couture shows, lending glamour to enchanting collections.

Keep an eye on the MAXXI National Museum of XXI Century Arts, designed by architect Zaha Hadid. While Laura Biagiotti's Spring Summer 2022 fashion show in honour of futurist painter Giacomo Balla is set to go down in history, it is often a popular location for brands during Fashion Week.

If you want to feel like you're on the rooftop of Rome, you absolutely must look out from the terrace of Villa Miani, from where you can enjoy a breathtaking view. This historic residence hosts events and parties and is the place to be. It won't be easy but it's worth a try.

One cannot fail to include the world-famous Trevi Fountain in this small guide to the most beautiful and popular locations in the fashion world. An icon of the city and a quintessentially romantic spot, it has featured in great films such as La Dolce Vita and has been a source of inspiration for many artists.

No other location would have been more suitable to celebrate the 90th anniversary of the Fendi fashion house, which for the occasion staged an unforgettable fashion show during which the models seemed to twirl on the illuminated surface of the fountain's water.

Rome, fashion and society

The marriage of Rome and fashion, as we have seen, goes hand in hand with the name of Valentino, which has its brand headquarters in the capital.

It was an iconic choice by the maison, and by creative director Pierpaolo Piccioli, to set the Autumn Winter 2022 2023 haute couture show in Piazza Mignanelli, the same square that houses the Renaissance palazzo of the same name in which the maison is headquartered. A choice that will be replicated this year with the Haute Couture Fall Winter 22.23 "The Beginning" fashion show, in the very place where it all began back in 1959.

A stone's throw from Trinità dei Monti, for those who love Italian fashion, Palazzo Gabrielli-Mignanelli is a must-see. And while the fashion show will also be streamed on Valentino.com on 8 July 2022 at 8 p.m., to discover the history of the historic maison and its collections, from 10 to 12 July 2022, from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m., and from 13 to 14 July 2022, from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., the Valentino Archive will be open to the public. A selection of garments from 1950 to 1973 will be on display.

Places are limited: visits can be booked on Valentino.com.

And now, on to the monumental 135-step Trinità dei Monti staircase, one of the most enchanting and magical places in the world. Its steps have been climbed by almost all the most famous members of the fashion world, from models to fashion designers, from celebrities to photographers.

Anyone who has had the pleasure of admiring this architectural work of art simply could not help falling in love with it, including Paolo Bulgari, president of the historic jewellery maison, who financed the restoration of the monument in 2015.

What could be more evocative than wandering among the locations where some of the most beloved films in the history of cinema were shot? Cinecittà Studios is one of the most popular locations to experience the Roman dream and feel like a true movie star.

The Auditorium Parco della Musica, located in Parioli, is the ideal location for concerts and events, first and foremost the Rome Film Festival, transforming the structure into one of the world's largest red carpets where personalities from the world of fashion and show business have strutted their stuff in fabulous outfits.

Finally, the Prati Bus District, a structure dating back to the late 1920s, is an industrial area with unique design features. The result of a major redevelopment project of the former ATAC Vittoria depot, it is now the location of choice for the glamorous AltaRoma fashion shows.

Whether they serve as locations for fashion shows, or are iconic sites for the fashion industry, Rome is home to some of the most atmospheric places where fashion is made, worn and experienced. And discovering them is a dream come true.
