At MAXXI in Rome, data becomes matter
2 minutes
For the first time, the material representation of data breaks away from the two-dimensionality of paper and digital graphics, to take shape and give visitors the chance not only to read, but also to touch what the numbers say about current issues such as greenwashing and carbon neutrality. This is the visual exhibition titled 'Studio Visit. Alcantara-Maxxi Project', with great impact and communicative potential, open to visitors until 23 October in the beautiful setting of the hall dedicated to Claudia Gian Ferrari.
What is the Alcantara - MAXXI Project?
The successful collaboration between MAXXI and Alcantara began in 2011 in the form of a shared and continuous path of research, experimentation and dialogue between creativity and innovation. Essentially, it takes the form of group exhibitions, hosted by MAXXI, which over the years have involved many national and international designers and studios.
In the 11th edition, inaugurated on 22 September 2022, the project delves into the environmental economic theme thanks to the work of Giorgia Lupi, information designer and co-founder of the research and design studio Accurat, and Studio Pentagram, specialists in visual data design based in New York.
The MAXXI in Rome today
The first national museum dedicated to contemporary art, the MAXXI Museo Nazionale delle Arti del XXI secolo (MAXXI National Museum of 21st Century Arts), is a space where design, fashion, cinema, art and architecture come together.
Inaugurated in May 2010, and conceived as a large campus for culture, it is housed in a building constructed on the site of a former military complex.
Designed by Zaha Hadid, one of the most illustrious and well-known contemporary architects, and winner of the Stirling Prize for Architecture in 2010, the building has now become iconic, entering the collective imagination as well as being a preferred destination for architecture lovers and connoisseurs of beauty.
And after the MAXXI
Before leaving the museum, why not take refreshment in one of the building's two dining options: the LINEA restaurant and the Typo cafeteria and bookshop. In the former, even the most refined palates can enjoy a surprising experience in a unique location, while in the latter, with a more New York style, you can grab a coffee to go or a snack to enjoy while reading a book.
Leaving MAXXI you are in the heart of the Flaminio district, just a few steps away from Buro Happold's very recent Music Bridge. You will pass by the former Guido Reni Barracks that will house the future City of Science, and then head towards the Auditorium Parco della Musica, another architectural masterpiece, this time by Renzo Piano.
For one day you will have inhabited the city of Rome that looks to the future.
