In Rome, at Palazzo Bonaparte, Vassily Kandinsky the father of abstract art takes center stage once again with a major monographic exhibition marking his return to the capital twenty-five years after the last retrospective dedicated to him.
The exhibition, organized in collaboration with the Centre Pompidou in Paris, brings together over seventy works from prestigious international collections. The exhibition is organized into five thematic sections that trace Kandinsky’s entire artistic evolution: from his early years rooted in the Russian tradition to the full emergence of abstract art, including his time with the Blaue Reiter, his years at the Bauhaus, and his Parisian period.
Alongside his most famous masterpieces, the exhibition features photographs, documents, personal items, and archival materials that illustrate the deep connection between color, music, and spirituality fundamental themes in the artist’s work. A special focus is dedicated to Gabriele Münter, a key figure in German Expressionism and Kandinsky’s partner, offering a fresh perspective on the cultural context that contributed to the birth of modern art.
The exhibition runs from September 15, 2026, to February 14, 2027.
