Lakes of Olbe

Overview

Below the Sappadine Dolomites, at altitudes above 1,800 metres, three small pools of water fill as many basins of glacial origin almost at the watershed with the Veneto region. The Lakes of Olbe can be reached from the Sappada mountain, if desired also from the villages at the bottom of the valley, but more conveniently by taking the Sappada 2000 ski lifts up to their refuge. From here, once you descend the ski slope for a first stretch, the markers indicate the direction. This hiking trail, following the CAI 140 and CAI 138 signs, is suitable for everyone: it takes about an hour or so to climb the approximately two-hundred-metre difference in altitude.
Another trail from down in the valley is CAI 135, about nine hundred metres in height difference: perhaps three hours are to be expected. More information - possibly also on the third possible option, ascending from the Sesis valley near the Baita Rododendro - can be obtained at the Sappada Infopoint, in Borgata Bach
