On the snow in the heart of Carnia
Forni di Sopra, in Carnia, is nestled in a basin in the heart of the Friulian Dolomites Natural Park and is the ideal base for a holiday immersed in nature at a stone's throw from the peaks. The historic centre is characterised by houses with typical local architecture: the lower part is built of stone, the upper part of wood. The heart of the village is the Town Hall Square, with a stone fountain and historic buildings.
The village of Cella is home to the Church of San Floriano, which dates back to the 15th century and houses a polyptych by Andrea di Bortolotto il Bellunello and a cycle of frescoes by Gianfrancesco da Tolmezzo. Graves from the 7th-8th centuries AD have also been found in the area. Near Andrazza, one of the historic hamlets of Forni di Sopra, are the ruins of the 12th-century Sacuidic castle. The locality of Clevas is home to the castrum of Cuol di Ciastel.
