Monfalcone, an industrial city famous worldwide for the cruise ships built in its shipyards, is home to Italy's only shipbuilding museum, MuCa.
The museum, housed in the former workers' hotel in the village of Panzano, the "company town" that developed around the shipyard in the 1920s, tells the story of the shipyard and the city through an exhibition covering over a century of history, using contemporary language and the latest multimedia technologies. The Museum organises combined guided tours of the MuCa and the shipyards. However, the city's signature monument is a fortified building of medieval origin that stands on the hills opposite Monfalcone: it is the Rocca, which can also be reached by following the paths of the Great War Theme Park, which offers visitors three different areas to discover and observe this war zone, the site of several battles between June 1915 and May 1917.
Also in Monfalcone, for sports enthusiasts, the seaside resort of Marina Julia is equipped for kitesurfing, kayaking, SUP and windsurfing.
